1. Description of Scholarship
New Hope Telephone Cooperative, Inc (“NHTC”) has established a scholarship for students who attend high school within its local telephone service area. There will be one $500.00 scholarship available to one high school senior from each of the local high schools. The scholarship will be paid directly to the student who is awarded the scholarship upon verification of student enrollment in an accredited college. The scholarship award should be applied to amounts owed for tuition, fees, books, and room and board, if provided through the college.
2. Application for Scholarship
To apply for the local NHTC scholarship, the applicant must complete and submit the Foundation of Rural Services (FRS) Scholarship Application (www.frs.org) on or before March 1 of the year of graduation. Students who apply for the FRS scholarship will automatically qualify for the NHTC scholarship. If not applying for the FRS scholarship, the applicant may complete the NHTC Scholarship application.
3. Awarding of Scholarship
Scholarship recipients must have at least a C grade point average and will be chosen on the basis of academic and community achievement and commitment. This program is focused on students who express an interest in returning to a rural area after graduation.
The actual selection shall be made by the counselor of each high school. This selection will be made on a non-discriminatory basis without regard to race, sex or national origin.
