What is Spam?
Spam - Unsolicited "junk" e-mail sent to large
numbers of people to promote products or services. Sexually explicit unsolicited
e-mail is called "porn spam." Also refers to inappropriate promotional
or commercial postings to discussion groups or bulletin boards. (this definition
came from www.getnetwise.org )
How can I slow down the Spam into my email box?
 | Never click on the unsubscribe link in the spam. Some spammers
guess at email addresses, when you click on the unsubscribe link they know
your email address is a good one and add it to a list that they will sell to
other spammers. |
 | Never buy anything advertised in an email spam. This is the
reason it is profitable for them. |
 | Never visit a web site advertised in an email spam. They can
track where you came from and will most likely put some Spyware on your
computer. |
Some facts about Spam at the New Hope Telephone Cooperative.
 | We get, on average, 125,000 pieces of email a day through our email
servers. |
 | 90 percent of that is Spam. |
 | Some days the amount of email we get is closer to 150,000 with 90 percent
still being Spam |
 | We have a Spam filter that blocks this 90 percent, there is no action
required by our customers. |
 | We have an additional Spam filter that you can setup, go to our Spam
Filter Setup page or call Tech Support at 723-8940 |
 | Forward any spam to our spam filter, it will learn what is and is not
spam, this must be forwarded 'as an attachment'. If you need help doing this,
then call our tech support at 723-8940. The more this is done by our
customers the better the spam filter will be. The address of the spam
filter is stopspam@nehp.net |
