A SERVICE FROM

PC & YOU

... until the year 2001

Was your personal computer Y2K ready ?
Hardware?  BIOS?  Operating System?  Software Programs?

PC&YOU   has offered seminars targeted toward problems you might encounter with your personal computers and the Year 2000 - and later. 2000 is also a Leap Year. Below are some links for background reading. Many of these sites address issues beyond the control of the individual personal computer user. Some do address software specific issues, but that was only part of preparing your personal computer to roll over to Year 2000.

Seminars about Y2K - lead by PC&YOU - addressed what you COULD do to prepare your personal computer's hardware and software.

We hope that you find the below links helpful for a broader understanding of an issue the world had never faced previously. And somehow got past that date. Other issues are still to come.

What is/was the so-called Y2K bug?
This is not a "virus issue" but rather many computers (hardware, firmware and software) use DATE fields that can handle only two digits for the YEAR. For example, 1998 reads as 98.

On January 1, 2000, these machines will interpret 00 as 1900. They may just crash. Or, more likely, they will spew out inaccurate data, like sending a notice that your utility bill is 100 years overdue (possibly with late fees)? Or it might get closer to home: You might not get paid?

One thing is certain. There was a great deal of uncertainty as to what might happen since results might vary widely depending who prepared what for the Year 2000 roll over. And that uncertainty will continue after the roll over since not all implications will appear immediately. And more importantly, how what they did, or failed to do, may affect your life? If you depend on the use of your personal computer, do your part. And keep doing it.
